A beautiful installation begins with preparation. These five steps take less than an hour — and they'll save you far more time on install day.

Assess Your Wall Texture
Run your hand across the wall surface. Peel-and-stick materials need smooth walls to adhere and release cleanly. Traditional wallpaper is generally more forgiving on light texture. If your walls are heavily textured, traditional is almost always the right call.

Check Your Paint Age and Finish
Fresh paint must fully cure before any wallpaper goes up — typically 30 days for latex. Slick, dusty, or builder-grade paint may need a primer coat. Weak or peeling paint is the most common reason wallpaper fails, regardless of which material you choose.

Order Your Sample First
A sample lets you confirm the color in your room's specific light, the scale against your wall, the material feel in your hands, and the adhesion on your actual paint. This one step prevents the most expensive mistakes. Samples are $5 and ship quickly.

Measure Your Walls Carefully
Measure the full wall height at its tallest point — including above doors and windows. Measure width at the widest point. When in doubt, order the larger measurement. Running short mid-install is a far greater inconvenience than a small amount of leftover material.

Order Everything at Once
Color can vary between print runs. Order all the wallpaper needed for the entire project in one purchase so every panel comes from the same run. This is one of the few wallpaper rules that is truly non-negotiable.
