We found this one on a gray morning walk.

Most shells catch your eye in bright light — but this one stopped me in the overcast quiet, its surface gleaming with an unexpected depth. Navy and slate blue swirled together with soft, moody undertones that felt almost like the sea itself had painted it.

I knew immediately it needed to be preserved exactly as it was.

Back in the studio, I layered indigo and slate in slow, careful washes — building the depth I'd seen on the shore without losing the quiet drama that made it so arresting in the first place. The result is one of the most striking pieces in the collection. Bold enough to anchor a wall on its own. Refined enough to disappear beautifully into a gathered grouping.

Hang it above a kitchen counter. Tuck it into a gallery wall alongside Clam 1 and the rest of the series. Frame it in white and let that deep blue do exactly what it wants to do.

Some shells are pretty. This one has presence.
