We found this one still wet from the tide.
Its surface caught the sunlight in the most beautiful way — denim blue and oyster white layered together with warm golden-beige, the kind of natural detail that feels almost too considered to be accidental. I stood there for a moment just looking at it before I even thought to pick it up.
Back in the studio I painted it exactly as it was. Layer by layer, preserving that sense of movement and warmth — the way the color shifted across the shell's surface, the texture that told you it had lived in the water a long time.
Of the six in this collection, Clam 3 is perhaps the most expressive. It has depth without being heavy. Warmth without losing its coastal calm. Hang it large over a living room console and it anchors the entire room. Tuck it into a kitchen gallery wall and it quietly becomes the piece everyone asks about.
The coast has a way of making beautiful things. This one just needed someone to paint it.
