Hang with Confidence

Five things to know before you order — so your panels arrive ready to hang, in the right order, with color that matches from wall to wall.

Every panel is 19" wide

Five panels cover 95" of wall. Six cover 114". Multiply your panel count by 19 to know your total coverage before you order.

Order the whole wall at once

Some of my patterns repeat beyond a single panel width, so each order is printed in sequence to line up correctly on your wall. Panels ordered separately later — even the same pattern, same colorway — are not guaranteed to match in color or print run.

Panel order matters. No exceptions.

Each panel is numbered for installation, left to right, in the sequence it was printed. Hung out of order, the pattern won't align at the seams — there's no piecing it back together.

Measure the whole wall — windows, doors, and all

Measure full width and full height, straight across, including over windows, doors, and trim. You'll trim around openings during install — but skip them in your measurement and you'll come up short on panels.

When in doubt, round up

Every panel is custom-printed to order, and slight color variation can happen between print runs. If you come up short and need to reorder, I can't guarantee an exact match. One extra panel is a lot less than a full re-do.

Vaulted or sloped ceiling? Read this twice.

Measure at the very tallest point of your ceiling. Every panel prints at that exact height, straight through — they can't be cut apart or swapped to fit shorter sections of the same wall. If your ceiling height changes anywhere in the room, the tallest point is your number for every panel.

Because every roll is custom-printed to your measurements, completed orders can't be returned or exchanged. I'd rather you feel completely sure before you buy — if anything here is unclear, send me a note and I'll walk through it with you.

Color, texture, and scale are everything in a wallpaper decision — and our samples make it easy to get it right. Each sample is printed on the same premium paper stock used in your full panels, so what you hold in your hand is exactly what you'll receive on your walls.

We strongly recommend ordering samples before committing to full panels, as color and scale can vary slightly from screen to home.

For mural and large-scale designs: We recommend ordering a 2 ft. panel rather than a standard sample, as the full pattern repeat is difficult to assess at smaller scale.

Please note: Samples are not intended to be used in your final installation. Due to the custom print process, panels will not match if combined with separately ordered samples.

Every Melissa Dayton Art design is available in three materials, each suited to a different space and installation need.

Luxe Traditional is a premium non-woven paste-to-wall paper — the most elevated option, with clean butted seams and a finish that reads as truly custom. It's the right choice for any room where permanence and craftsmanship matter most.

Peel & Stick offers a removable, wipeable vinyl with built-in adhesive — ideal for smooth walls, rentals, or rooms where flexibility matters.

Luxe Peel & Stick bridges the two: a thicker, more substantial removable option with the clean butted seams of traditional wallpaper, perfect for feature walls and polished room refreshes.

How to Measure Your Wall Confidently

How to Measure Your Wall

Because your wallpaper is custom printed just for your space, accurate measurements are everything. Please take a moment to measure carefully before placing your order — it makes all the difference.

Measure the full wall — don't subtract anything.
Include the entire width and height of your wall, even over doors, windows, closets, and built-ins. We print full vertical panels that install left to right in sequence, and you'll trim around openings during installation. What we need from you is the complete wall dimension.

Example: A wall that is 120 inches wide and 96 inches tall gets entered as 120 × 96 — even if there's a window in the middle.

Step 1 — Width
Measure from corner to corner in inches. If you're papering more than one wall, measure each wall separately and add the widths together.

Step 2 — Height
Measure at the tallest point of the wall. If your room has baseboards and crown molding, measure the visible wall space between them. For vaulted or angled ceilings, always use the tallest measurement.

Step 3 — Note What's on the Wall
Doors, windows, and built-ins don't need to be papered — but don't subtract them from your measurements. Panels install around these features and are trimmed on-site.

A few important notes before you order:

Panels must all be the same height. Heights cannot be mixed within a single order, as the pattern repeat will not align.

For mural and large-scale designs, we recommend ordering a 2 ft. panel as a sample first — standard samples are too small to show the full repeat clearly.

Because every order is custom printed, we are unable to accept returns or offer refunds for orders placed using incorrect measurements. Please measure twice.

Installation Recommendation

Installation Tips

For the best possible result, we always recommend working with a professional wallpaper installer. These are the guidelines we share with every customer before installation begins.

Wall Preparation

  • Walls should be clean, free of dust, and fully dry before you begin
  • All paint must be completely cured — freshly painted walls need adequate drying time before application
  • Surface texture matters: our wallpapers are designed for smooth or lightly textured walls (standard orange peel and light knockdown textures typically install well)

A note on textured walls:
If your wall has a soft or moderate texture, the wallpaper will adhere — but the texture may remain visible beneath the surface. For heavily textured or uneven walls, we recommend our traditional pasted wallpaper for the best adhesion and finish.

Please note: Melissa Dayton Art is not responsible for adhesion issues on heavily textured surfaces. When in doubt, order a sample first and test on your specific wall before committing to a full installation.

Color and pattern may vary slightly between orders due to the nature of our custom printing process. If you are ordering for multiple rooms or plan to reorder in the future, we recommend ordering all panels at the same time to ensure consistency.

Late August on Sprite Island. The lobsters are plentiful, the clambake is set up on the shore, and the day has that particular golden quality that only comes at the end of a perfect summer. Saugatuck Harbor Lobster Stripe was painted from that evening — the rickrack-edged stripe, the fully painted lobster rendered in careful detail, the feeling of a season lived exactly right.

There is a moment at the end of every perfect summer that you spend the rest of the year trying to get back to.

On Sprite Island, that moment arrived in late August — when the lobsters were plentiful and the clambakes stretched long into the evening, fire on the shore, boats rocking gently at their moorings, laughter carrying across the harbor until the stars came out. Nothing was hurried. Nothing needed to be.

Saugatuck Harbor Lobster Stripe was drawn from that world.

The lobster at the center of this pattern is not a graphic. It is not a silhouette. It is a fully hand-painted original — the same lobster that began as a fine art painting, rendered with careful attention to color, dimension, and detail. Blue-grey body. Coral and amber. The particular quality of something observed closely and painted with affection.

The stripe that carries it is classic and unhurried — vertical bands in soft coastal tones, edged with a delicate rickrack detail reminiscent of the eyelet trim on the best preppy summer dresses. The kind of dress worn to a clambake and not taken off until the last ember went out.
